AIA Houston Home Tour

This weekend, November 7 and 8, our Kane Casita is one of seven homes on the AIA Houston Home Tour, and we’d love for you to come see it in person.

The project started as a dilapidated 1879 cottage in the Sixth Ward. Because of the neighborhood’s preservation rules, the original exterior wood siding and raw shiplap walls had to stay, and we got to build a light-filled contemporary home around that history. It’s one of my favorite things about the house: new and old sharing the same walls.

PaperCity recently featured the tour, and I was happy to see them notice the small details, like the custom wooden ramps and private dog door we built for Oscar, our dachshund. Those details are my favorite kind of design problem.

Discounted tickets are available online through Friday, November 6: get yours here. I will be at the house to answer questions, so come ask me anything.

See you at the casita!
